The Real Meaning of Easter by Amari Allen (age 9)

Is Easter about the candy or the Easter Bunny? Is it about the Easter eggs or the carnival games? No. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He was beaten and later crucified. For three days he lay in the tomb, then on the third day, Sunday, he rose again. The candy and games and easter bunnies are nice, but Jesus rising from the dead and going to heaven is why we have an Easter day!

A Few Scriptures Regarding Anger

God’s Word Says:

• “A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back.” (Proverbs 29:11)

• “This you know, my beloved brethren. But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20)

• “Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools.” (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

• “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’ But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thir¬sty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:18-21)

• “Do not associate with a man given to anger; or go with a hot-temp¬ered man, lest you learn his ways and find a snare for yourself.” (Proverbs 22:24-25)

• “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are… enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions… and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:19-24)

• “Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.” (Ephesians 4:26-27)

Failing Forward by Coach Wim (Wimberly Watson II)

It’s easy to look at failure as a bad thing.  In fact, failure is seen as being on the opposite side of the coin.  Every time we flip the coin we must either win or lose.  Whether it’s choosing who will kick off and receive in a football game, or simply trying to determine who gets to ride shotgun – there has to be a winner, and there has to be a loser.

Winning feels good.  Winning increases confidence.  Winning puts you on top of the world.  However losing is discouraging, confidence defeating, and demotivating.

It doesn’t have to be that way, if you change your relationship with failure.  You do this by viewing failure and success as being on the same side of the coin.  This creates a win-win scenario no matter the outcome.   How can failure and success be a good thing?  When you use your failure as a learning tool and a stepping stone towards success, it takes on a completely different identity.
Most if not all successful people feed on failure.  It becomes the fuel to make them work harder, smarter, and become more determined to succeed.  Michael Jordan missed over 50% of his shots throughout his career, yet he is still deemed as the most successful basketball player of all times.  Why?  Because he never let his failures define him.

It is also essential to understand that there’s a major difference between failing and being a failure.  To fail is temporary.  It means that you didn’t accomplish your goal or what you set out to do.  To be a failure is a mindset where you allow your failings to define you.

So, how can you fail forward successfully?  Below are three ways to do so:
  1. Change your attitude towards failure by embracing it – You choose whether to have a win-win or a win-lose relationship with it.
  2. Realize that when you fail, learn from it, and use it to move you forward, your failure is instantly transformed into a success.
  3. Remember that failure and success are on the same side of the coin.  However, failing and being a failure are not.

The Little Things

There are times when I feel like I have nothing to post on this blog regarding the Getting in Shape Goal, becuase I think it would bore the readers to pieces. While on my daily power walk (wink wink) with my BFF, she asked me if I was still working out. I explained that I was and that I had nothing new and exciting to report. She suggested that I tell the readers about how little steps can be just as significant as the big steps.  I was confused and she said, “Bri these walks count!”. At the time I was like whatever, but later on I thought about it and had to agree. After I walk during my lunch at work I feel energized, refreshed and sometimes winded LOL. We always talk about life and get to see how beautiful God made the world. The trees, flowers and sunshine I get to see in beautiufl Burbank, CA is certainly a blessing that no gym or dvd workout can provide.

Love and Blessings,

Brina

Accountability

It’s closing on week 3 of my goal to get in shape in 90 days. What I will say is it’s not easy to will the body to constantly move for 45min to an hour each day. I guess that’s why they call it WORKout.  What does make it easier is having a buddy to exercise with you and to hold you accountable for making it happen. In my case it’s been my sisters. I call one of them up, set a time and we sweat and complain until it’s over. The aftermath of being sweaty and exhausted somehow is a major stress reliever. The only thing I can think of is breathing. Without my accountability partners this goal would be a lot more difficult to pursue. My advice is to make sure you have someone checking up on you, possibly with a similar goal to help keep you in line.

Later Cali Girls,

Brina
